They Are Watching You
Something about angels attracts us, fascinates us, and makes us wonder. According to a major magazine, nearly seventy percent of Americans believe in angels. That is more than the number of Americans who consider themselves to be born again and far more than the number of Americans who regularly attend church.
Angels represent a kind of safe religion. In the past few decades, people have begun to look to angels for hope, guidance, and strength. Angels represent a spiritual yearning, a wishfulness for that other world we know is just beyond our senses.
Some people think angels will be whatever we want them to be. Some people think they are otherworldly beings who drop in to help us now and then. Some people think they are evolved humans or alien beings from another planet.
Men and women throughout history have wondered about angels—this other order of beings that God created.
- Where do they come from?
- What is their purpose?
- How are they different from mankind?
- Should we communicate with them?
- Are they higher or lower than us in God’s scale
- Should we desire to see them?
- How do we tell a good angel from a bad one?
Even though people are open to angels and spirituality, they do not always receive teaching that is sound, truthful, or safe. There is a persistent need for resources that draw conclusions based entirely and solely on the Bible, and that is what Dave Williams does in this series. The purpose is to clearly state who angels are, what their purpose is, and how we should relate to them.
The truths found in this series will add to your knowledge and wonder of angels within the boundaries of the Bible. To establish clear boundaries so Christians can find a healthy balance between ignoring the presence of angels—which is a non-biblical attitude—and seeking angels instead of God, which is also non-biblical.
We were meant to co-exist with angels, appreciating what they do, respecting their place in God’s creation, working with them to bring God’s plan to fruition. But it is wise to remember that God is our ultimate resource and authority and that angels are His servants. Without God, there are no angels, no earth, no you and me. It is Him we serve, and we should let our fascinations ultimately rest on the Creator, not anything He has created.
Let’s look into this subject of angels to learn more about God, about ourselves, and our purpose on this planet. When we are through, you will be wonderfully enlightened about angels and have a greater appreciation for what God has empowered them to do.
