“Hey, George, How ya doin’ today?”

“Oh, you know. It’s been a bad day so far. I don’t know why it always rains when I plan to go fishing. And, the old arthritis has been acting up again. And, did you read about that train that derailed down in Cincinnati? Oh, I must be getting old. Every day I discover a new ache or pain somewhere.”

How many times have you experienced a scenario similar to this? You ask someone how they are doing and then wish you hadn’t? Some people really believe that outside forces control whether or not they’ll have a good day. Some just let things happen, others make things happen. Some just haven’t figured out how to have a good day, let alone a good year.

This can be your best year ever. Really, it can be.

Would you believe me if I told you that this year could be the most spectacular year of your life? I hope so because there is a simple secret to having a great year, and I’m going to share it with you.

What must I do to have a great year, you ask? The answer may be so simple and obvious that you’ve probably overlooked it. Are you ready for the secret? Here it is:

If you want to have a great year, you have to experience a series of great days because days make up weeks, weeks make up months, and months make up years.

I have learned some valuable lessons over the years that have helped me have some great years, one great day at a time. Would you like today to be the best day of your life? Do you want a great day tomorrow? Would you like this year to be the best year of your life?

If you want this to be the best year of your life, you have to start by learning how to have the best day of your life.

So, let me give you a plan for having a great day, and that will lead to having a great week, then a great month, and then a great year, and ultimately a great life in general. Are you ready for the plan?

How To Make Today A Great Day

Believe Psalm 118:24 and speak it out loud.

Psalm 118:24 NLT
This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.

The second your eyes open in the morning, let these words come out of your mouth, “This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.” That should be the first thing that tumbles from your lips in the morning. Isn’t that better than waking up and the first thing is whining and groaning, “Aaaawww, ehhhhh.”?

This is the day the Lord has made and if the Lord has made, this day I have a choice. I can choose to rejoice in it, in spite of all the “stuff,” or I can choose to whine in it.

Now what kind of day do you think I’m going to have if I start out by whining? The Scripture does not say, “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us all gripe about it.”

How about getting up and saying, “This is the day that the Lord has made, I make a choice to rejoice in it because I am a champion.

Remember

  • God made You more than a conqueror through Christ (Romans 8:37).
  • He gave you the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16).
  • God has seated you in heavenly places with Christ far above all powers and principalities (Ephesians 2:6).
  • He gave you His clothes to wear on this earth: the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, feet shod with the shoes of the preparation of peace, the shield of faith, and the sword of the spirit, which is the Spoken Word (Ephesians 6:10-18).
  • God gave you the blood of Jesus to wash away all you sins and failures. Angels are stationed all around you (Psalm 34:7, Psalm 91:11)

Now, that’s the start of a good day. Remember, years are made up of a series of days. Good days regularly repeated, make for good years.

Say it: “This is going to be one of the best days of my life.”
